Litany for Ministry

God the Father,

have mercy on us.

God the Son,

have mercy on us.

God the Holy Spirit,

have mercy on us.

Holy Trinity, one God,

have mercy on us.

We humbly pray that you will hear us, good Lord.

Grant to your people the forgiveness of sins, growth in grace,

and the fruit of the Spirit.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Send your peace to the world which you have reconciled to yourself

by the ministry of your Son Jesus.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Heal the divisions of your Church, that all may be one,

so that the world may believe.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Lead the members of your Church in their vocation and ministry,

that they may serve you in true and godly living.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Raise up faithful and able ministers for your Church,

that the gospel may be known to all people.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Fill them with compassion, clothe them with humility,

and move them to care for all your people.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Inspire all bishops, priests and deacons with your love,

that with all your people they may hunger for truth,

Lord, hear our prayer.

Bless your servants [NN],

who are to be admitted to the order of bishops/priests/deacons.

Pour your grace upon them,

that they may faithfully fulfil the duties of this ministry,

build up your Church, and glorify your name.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Sustain by the indwelling of your Holy Spirit

all who are called to the ordained ministries of your Church,

and encourage them to persevere to the end.

Lord, hear our prayer.

Gather us with all your saints into your eternal kingdom.

Lord, hear our prayer.

The Litany concludes

Eternal God and Father,

you have promised to hear those who pray

in the name of your Son.

Grant that what we have asked in faith

we may obtain according to your will;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Litany for Peace

[In peace let us pray to the Lord saying, 'Lord, have mercy'.]

For peace from on high and for our salvation,

let us pray to the Lord,

Lord, have mercy.

For the peace of the whole world, for the welfare of the holy Church of God,

let us pray to the Lord,

Lord, have mercy.

For peace among our bishops, clergy and people,

let us pray to the Lord,

Lord, have mercy.

For peace among [the leaders of] the nations, and those in authority,

let us pray to the Lord,

Lord, have mercy.

For the peace of this city [town, place], for every city and community, and for those who live in them in faith,

let us pray to the Lord,

Lord, have mercy.

For our deliverance from all evil, strife, and need,

let us pray to the Lord,

Lord, have mercy.

Litany for Unity

[In peace let us pray to the Lord saying, 'Lord, hear and have mercy'.]

We pray for all who confess the name of Christ; fill us with the power of your Holy Spirit.

Lord, hear and have mercy.

We pray for those whose lives are bound in mutual love, for the celibate, for those who live alone, and for the unloved; be their joy and strength.

Lord, hear and have mercy.

We pray for one another; may we always be united in service and love.

Lord, hear and have mercy.

We pray to be forgiven our sins and set free from all hardships, distress, want, war and injustice.

Lord, hear and have mercy.

May we discover new and just ways of sharing the goods of the earth. May we all live by the abundance of your mercies and find joy together.

Lord, hear and have mercy.

May we be strengthened by our communion with all Christ's saints.

Lord, hear and have mercy.

Litany for the Holy Spirit

[Let us pray to God the Holy Spirit, saying, 'Come, Holy Spirit, come'.]

Come, Holy Spirit, creator, and renew the face of the earth.

Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come, Holy Spirit, counsellor and advocate. Touch our lips that we may pray aright and proclaim your word.

Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come, Holy Spirit, power from on high, make us agents of peace and ministers of wholeness.

Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come, Holy Spirit, giver of life, breathe on your Church and make us a living people, holy and free.

Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come Holy Spirit, bond of love, pour your love into our hearts that we may serve you with joy.

Psalm Litanies

Psalm litanies may be used either as versicles and responses or as petitions for a litany, with a response after each one. The following are provided as examples.

Save your people, Lord, and bless your inheritance,

govern and uphold them now and always.

Day by day, we bless you;

we praise your name for ever.

Keep us today, Lord, from all sin;

have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.

We long for your salvation, O Lord:

grant us understanding, that we may live.

Lord, show us your love and mercy,

for we put our trust in you.

In you, Lord, is our hope:

let us not be confounded at the last.

O Lord, answer us in the day of trouble,

send us help from your holy place.

Show us the path of life,

for in your presence is joy.

Give justice to the orphan and the oppressed

and break the power of wickedness and evil.

Look upon the hungry and the sorrowful

and grant them the help for which they long.

Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad;

may your glory endure for ever.

Your kingship has dominion over all

and with you is our redemption.
